The ANKE-COSY collaboration is pursuing a well directed program with polarized beams and targets to study the baryon-baryon interaction and meson production in elementary reactions in double polarization experiments. The focus is on three body final states with the aim to derive information on spin-dependent two body scattering close to threshold. Studies of the dp->(pp)n reaction will provide an accurate data base for testing effective field theory approaches (in particular by the Juelich theory group) describing the nucleon-nucleon interaction at low energies. These developments may establish a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction based on Quantum Chromodynamics. The measurement of spin correlation parameters in NN->NN pion will provide a deeper understanding of two nucleon reactions at low energies. Studies of the pN->pN K^(+) Lambda reaction will allow to extract the spin dependent Lambda-N interaction which is fundamental for a full understanding of the baryon-baryon interaction.
